GUIDELINES FOR EVERYONE (after reading this, scroll down to your Grade section for the rest of the information):
-- Expect to be asked at least one question about each
main piece you are playing (
not Extra List pieces)
-- Expect to be asked 6 to 10 questions in total
-- In Grades 1-4 the questions will be asked from your music part
-- In Grades 5 and above the questions will be asked from the piano accompaniment part
Grades 2-4:
-- You should be able to name and explain all notes, rests, signs, terms, title and key of all
main pieces you prepared for the examination
-- You should also be able to describe any key changes that occur at clear section changes in your score (for example, where there are repeat dots between sections, or just a double bar line that shows a change in section)

Grades 5-6:

-- You may be asked to explain form, if your piece is one of the following: Binary, ternary, Rondo, Theme and Variations, First Movement (Sonata), Fugue, Minuet (Scherzo) and Trio, Through Composed
-- You should know the period from which the piece comes and be able to describe the time frame of that period, as well as discuss style by showing examples of the period's typical features throughout your pieces
